A New Chapter: SMP Spring Contemporary Series

This spring, SMP Dance Company is launching a five-week contemporary training series at The Black Box in Santa Barbara (628 Olive Street)

Led by Sarah Marie Picard with guest artist Jordan Lang, the series brings together contemporary movement, guided improvisation, and artist-centered training in an intimate studio setting.

Designed for pre-professional, college, and professional dancers, the container emphasizes both physical range and personal voice.

Each session will explore:

• Contemporary phrasework
• Structured improvisation
• Musicality and dynamic contrast
• Performance refinement

Jordan Lang joins the series for two immersive sessions focused on improvisational architecture and expansive movement quality.

Currently performing with various companies in the US and Canada and formerly with Ballet Jazz de Montréal and Ballet BC, Jordan brings a dynamic blend of athleticism, musicality, and risk-taking to the studio.

This collaboration marks the beginning of an evolving artist partnership within SMP Dance Company.
